Getting the Plastic Smell out of a Plastic Serving Tray? I bought two plastic serving trays and they came in sealed plastic covering. When I got them home and opened them, the manufacturing plastic smell was overpowering, and that was three weeks ago. I've tried everything; soaking in detergent, leaving them in the rain and then the sunshine, soaking in a vinegar/water solution, through the dishwasher on hot and they still smell. Does anyone have a suggestion on how I can remove the smell? They were bought to go under cat bowls and the cats won't go anywhere near them. Do I mix the baking soda with water and make a paste out of it? As for getting an aluminium tray ... I already bought the plastic ones. I'm not made of money! I'm after helpful answers please.

brianlr2000 replied: "buy an aluminum one"

Ix.XI replied: "I dont know...but whatever you choose to do. Whatever the outcome of your situation is, do NOT mix bleach and ammonia."

lyn replied: "PUT SOME BAKING SODA ON THEM AND LET IT SET FOR SEVERAL DAYS. SHOULD HELP."

alpinestars31 replied: "just serve fried chicken and watermelon on the tray on a regular basis. That will get rid of the smell"

snowwhite replied: "leave baking soda sit in the tray with a little hot water may help.then with a paper towel scrub the bowl, good luck"

mom*2 replied: "put a few drops of vanilla extract in them, seal them shut and let sit over night. vanilla is a natural odor absorber. good luck!"

janisko replied: "Here's one more solution. It came to me from a Tupperware dealer and definitely works, at least on stinky Tupperware.... Seal the piece with the odor in a plastic bag with several pieces of charcoal and crunched up newspaper. The charcoal will help release the odor and the newspaper will absorb it. This could take a week or longer. If this doesn't work I'd return the trays. It could be a chemical in the tray that just won't come out."

Does McDonalds sell their plastic serving trays? How much for?

Supernatural Eclipse replied: "sweety just go to the mall that has a mcdonalds and take one...i'm sure you won't get stopped... Just throw it in the bag :)"

rick(y) replied: "jus walk out the store with them, they won't notice..at least Wendy's didn't....anyways the best thing to do with them is sit on them and go down the slide in the play place thing. you haul ass. i did it once and flew out of the tube and hit some kid"

Teddy replied: "Just steal one if you want one. Get a couple of those plastic fry things too from Dairy Queen, I love them. I really don't think they give a sh*t."

Bill replied: "They only sell them in 20 packs for $19.95. They are really great for parties and surprisingly they are oven-safe. Just go in and ask to speak to the manager. He will be able to help you."

James replied: "the best thing is to ride some shories on them like little boogy boards, that's fun"

houzi replied: "I from China, I do the accountancy in a company. I am one lively open and bright, charming optimistic, the manner sincere woman. I am good at exchanging, the sense of responsibility strongly, the heavy sentiment. I like swimming, reading, listen to music, the good food. This is my individual main page, inside has my picture."

truth teller replied: "No They make them into Big Mac's that I wouldn't feed to my dog lol"

pinkhoney88 replied: "no"

Karamazov replied: "Go to the dollar tree and buy something simlar for a buck."

miltonchick replied: "I work for McDonald's. I have never heard of them selling the trays. However If you needed some, I'm sure if you talked to the store manager something could be worked out. Please don't steal though. Although a tray or two wouldn't be missed, stealing is stealing and it would be wrong. If you want one, just ask for one!"

Anyone know where i can buy individual serving trays with cup space in them?? We have some quite old ones that are plastic, oval and have a space to hold cup and space for food, sandwich etc. They are very useful for serving.

Lindata replied: "I'd try Cost Plus World Market or Crate and Barrel"

mylifeisHis replied: "You can check with some dollar stores, I've seen them there, or will restaurant supply stores. You can type "compartment plates" into your address bar, and any website that has them will pop up."

Jordan S replied: "alalalalalal"

zammy replied: "Try homebargains store they stock various types of kitchen/table wear also your local supermarket such as tesco's."

murphywingedspur replied: "Well, this is a shot in the dark as they are usually bought out in time for summer barbeques, but you could try the following stores; Elizabeth David ( Cookshop) and; Lakeland, or search online at I know that Lakeland stick them in the summer months ( they're shaped a little like an artists pallette!!) Or look on, and search for buffet plates. The're about a fiver each on this site! Edit; oopss!! Theres more; martleyelectronics.co.uk/homeandgarden, Found some on this site that are four for about 11.99."

What can i make out of a plastic tray? Something unique that I can sell for extra cash.? The tray measures about 10 inches by 13 inches. It is beige plastic. It's actually the tray they serve your food on when your on an airplane. 10 pts to the best answer.

Tony M replied: "You can stain it with gel stain to give it a wood look, then find a picture you like from a magazine or from a thrift store and put it onto it, then lacquer it to hold it in place. And if you wanted to go even further, you can make a clock out of it."

Does anyone understand my situation? Is there hope? So like last night I had six friends over for dinner. Everyting was going fine until I served the appetizers. Apparently my guests were dismayed that I served a vegetable platter which I had purchased at Costco. Maybe it was the plastic serving tray or the store-bought dip that turned them off. Anyway, things continued to slide downhill from there. I offered some chilled Ernest & Julio Gallo wine in a Tetra-Pak box with spout...that seemed to dismay my guests as well. For the main course I served a macaroni & cheese casserole topped with hot dog bits with a side of wonder bread topped with a mayo-anchovie spread I picked up at Safeway. My guests were getting woozy. Finally I served a desert I found at Albertson's...a wonderful green jello with carrot shreds and mini marshmallows. Sadly my guests nibbled a bit and whispered amongst themselves as I cleared the card table of the paper plates and plastic forks. Have I become a straight fellow? OMG I've always been gay!

closetcoon_fan replied: "Well there's your problem right there!!!! Everyone knows to impress guests of six or more that you use Butternut bread NOT Wonder bread. What the hell were you thinking!!!?"

Mr. Zwink replied: "hruh?!?! what does you hosting a flop of a dinner party have to do with anyones sexual orientation?"

JaketheRake replied: "Yeah, your taste is sliding down the meter. 5 Gay 4 Transsexual 3 Metro 2 Straight 1 Lets Eat Bugs I don't normally like stereotypes, but this is too funny to pass up."

Macgor replied: "So you haven't got a flair for dinner parties. Don't worry, that's a stereotype, too. You're a guy and I'll bet single to boot. Sounds like something I'd do Your friends should just appreciate you asked them over and arranged to have food. Maybe if you're going to have a large gathering again you might get one of your more flamboyant kitchen diva friends to assist planning and preparing the event for your snobbish buddies. And as for the wine, where I live even medium and upper grade wines now come in tetra packs. Better luck next time...and try to get some plates and cutlery before you tackle another dinner."

startrektosnewenterpriselovethem replied: "You sound full of hate"

foxy replied: "Honey you forgot the most important cardinal rule accesories, accesories, accesories...It doesn't matter what food, or beverage you provide (although the green jello w/ carrot shavings is a bit much). Did you have a good table scape, empty the box out into a empty jug/pitcher, serving platters, etc? These are things you have to remember when hosting a party. Food network really makes the easy for you, and remember this name Sandra Lee she is really good with budget."

How much food for a 50 person brunch? This is the first party I am planning on my own! We're having brunch/lunch foods. Here is the menu. How much of each should be purchased/prepared? Breakfast casserole Waldorf Chicken Salad (a la CPK) Gazpacho (serving it in small plastic cups) assorted breads (sliced, rolls, croissants) with a deli tray to make sandwiches assorted pastries fruit platter veggie platter There are 50 women coming!

mykes_ replied: "estimate they'll eat a little under a pound per person. divide that total amount with the items you're serving."

mtngigi replied: "A good rule of thumb for deli meats and cheeses is 4-6 people per pound of meat and cheese - the higher number if there's a lot of other food. So approx. 8lbs total of assorted meats and the same amount of cheese. Veggie trays - no more than 2 large trays with dip. Same with the fruit. 2 gallons of chicken salad ought to be more than enough. Same with the soup. Casserole - I would find a good recipe for 10 and multiply it accordingly. This site might help you a bit. "

doe anyone know how many pizzas this recipe makes here is the recipe? PIZZA HUT'S PAPER-THIN CRUST FOR THE PIZZA DOUGH/CRUST: 2 cups water (105 degrees F) 40 degrees Celsius 1/2 teaspoon yeast 4 cups flour 1 1/2 cups cake flour (self raising) 3 tablespoons olive or vegetable oil plus more for pans (trays) 2 teaspoons salt FOR THE PIZZA SAUCE: 1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce 1 teaspoon dried oregano 1/2 teaspoon dried marjoram 1/2 teaspoon dried basil 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt TO PREPARE THE DOUGH: Add the yeast to 1/4 cup of the warm water and set aside to proof. Combine the proofed yeast mixture and remaining ingredients in a mixer and knead for 10 minutes. Place in large bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Allow to ferment as long as possible (12-24 hours). Punch down dough now and then when you get the chance. TO PREPARE THE PIZZA SAUCE: Mix the ingredients for the pizza sauce together well and refrigerate for about 1 hour before use. If using with breadsticks, warm the sauce before serving.

WiSdOmWeEd replied: "1 large?"

theone replied: "one large or 2 medium sized."

Just me again!! replied: "yea, one lg or two md"

fortitudinousskeptic replied: "Yes! This is very similar to the homemade pizza I make. I would suggest, though that you cut back the water to 1.5 cups and the salt back to 1 teaspoon. You don't need more salt than that and the lower the sodium, the better. Lowering the water makes the dough stiffer and the pizza not so slimy. This will make one very large pizza, something like 18" , my recipe is very similar and I can get it easily on one of those large perforated pizza pans. It'll be a thick pizza, though, but I like it that way. Other tips..... put down the dough, then the sauce. Then put on "bottom cheese" - about a third of your total cheese. This is the key to gluing your pizza together so your toppings don't slide off the dough so easily. Then add the other toppings and then top cheese, the other 2/3"

Ever been to a McDonalds that uses real plates, forks and knives? Not the food wrappers, not the plastic spoons, not the styrofoam trays but actual plates with real forks and knives? I stopped in a McDonalds in a suburb of Columbus,Ohio last week, ordered a breakfast meal and it was served like this. It was more like eating in a Frisch's Big Boy restaurant than a McDonalds.

Sophie Lucky replied: "Ya, I have, somewhere in Canada, it was really nice, because the food was all McDonald's, but it was like, table service and everything ! I loved it ! Wish I remembered were it was..."

replied: "no but downtown nyc they have a guy playing the piano during lunch time tad fancy for mcds"

hugsandhissyfits replied: "No sounds nice if i liked McDonald's food.. ours is done like a jungle so the lion roars at you while you eat and monkeys swinging..scares the kids to death.."

answers replied: "no that would be weird!"

Ashley replied: "Yes, a couple of times. Where I used to live in Mass, they were trying to make McDonald's a classier dining place. They added a fireplace and a flat screen TV to make it more of a sit dine place rather then a drive through or pick up. It actually seems to work..."

Hot N Cold replied: "nope but i think mccafes are like that"

mrs replied: "lol. nope never heard of it."

AL replied: "Nope, but it sounds good."

Mattnbrandi V replied: "No, but the one in Buena park ca, near knotts berry farm wouldn't surprise me if they didn't start that. That place has a huge train set going thru the whole place...guess its for all the tourists."

masedabest replied: "naw but it must've been nice tho.......like u said u might as well have went out to a restaurant to sit down and eat......that would've thrown me off"

M replied: "Travel Channel did an episode with the most unique McDonalds. They had some like that on there."

thewifey replied: "no, was it really wierd??? i think i would have freaked out a bit"

amphilyon715 replied: "Yes I have. It was kind of awkward. Most of their food can be consumed with your hands, no need for the real stuff."

Regarding DVD disc trays, used discs, and slimline cases? This is actually a multi-part question (and if it doesn't prove that I'm totally neurotic, I don't know what will); a sincere thank you to anyone who can actually tackle this issue. Regarding the disc trays that are found in computer disc drives, DVD recorders and players, and gaming consoles, do the discs that you place on them actually TOUCH the surface of the tray? Because I recently inspected a disc tray closely, and it seems that there is a thin but noticeable "circular bump" along the outside of the tray (where the unwritten part closest to the edge of the disc would touch) that seems to serve the purpose of "elevating" the disc so that the actual writeable/readable surface of the disc does not touch the tray itself. However, this is only speculation on my part, as it seems like no one's ever discussed this before. It may just be a design thing, and it may not work like I explained it, but I wanted to see if anyone knew for sure that this is true. It seems like that while the disc spins at high speed inside of the drive or device, it would be beneficial for the disc NOT to actually grind along or hit against the surface of the disc tray. The second part of this question is (I know, I'm sorry for the lengthiness), if the disc tray DOES come into contact with the bottoms of the discs, then doesn't that become a serious problem in terms of cleanliness? Especially when it comes to used or rented discs, because couldn't any number of substances (such as dirt, dust, grease, chemicals, etc.) be smeared on the bottoms (as they would have been passed around from person to person), and dirty up the surface of the trays and then in turn dirty the bottoms of the clean discs that you own and try to play later on? In other words, would playing dirty, used or rented discs in a certain player run the risk of dirtying the other discs you own when you play them in the same player later on? And finally, on a very similar note, regarding the effectiveness of slimline disc cases, I have noticed that a similar "circular bump" can be found on the surface of the case where the disc would rest, except in this case it is found towards the center of the case (where the inner, plastic part of the disc would rest). Does this serve a similar purpose of ensuring that the disc is "elevated" so that the actual readable parts of the disc do not come into contact with the surface of the disc tray? Or is it once again just wishful thinking on my part? Thank you sincerely if you can put to rest this issue.

RichB replied: "With disc cases, the case does not usually contact the data area of the disc surface, only the inner hub and outer edge. Discs that you place on a disc tray do usually touch the surface of the tray, yes. It shouldn't be a problem as the disc never spins while in contact with the tray - it is lifted up by the hub when the disc is loaded, and lowered down again (once it has stopped spinning) when the disc is ejected. As for dirt on the surface of the discs, it's usually a good idea to clean the disc before you put it in the drive."
